The Road to Beats & Bars
The trip starts long before the first record drops.

For eMCee C-Boogs, Beats & Bars Barbecue doesn’t begin when the DJ drops the needle or somebody grabs the mic.
It starts the night before, when everybody’s getting their outfits together, packing bags, and figuring out who’s riding with who.
Remember the excitement of a school trip? Knowing you were about to spend the whole day with your boys, away from the usual routine, and that something good was waiting on the other end?
That’s how C-Boogs describes the annual journey to Augusta, Georgia.
He remembers one particular trip when he, Eclips3, Vic Damone, Dinco-D of Leaders of the New School, and DJ Danny Dubs traveled south in a Sprinter van.
They were up around three in the morning, loading the van and preparing to pick up another friend in New York.
For C-Boogs, the excitement was already in full swing.
“You know when the night before you go on a trip, you got your clothes ready?” he remembers. “You already know that trip’s going to be the best thing you ever did.”
And then there are the highway stops.
Breakfast comes first. Then everybody stocks up on snacks for the road.
“The highway gas stations got the best snacks on the planet,” C-Boogs laughs.
It’s the kind of detail that might seem insignificant until you realize what he’s describing. The journey itself has become part of the tradition. The conversations, the laughs, the unexpected moments along the highway — all of it belongs to the Beats & Bars experience.
But there’s one moment he remembers more vividly than almost anything else.
Crossing the gates.
C-Boogs remembers his first arrival with Eclips3, walking through the fence surrounding Kool Kim’s property.
“The very first time when we went to Beats and Bars, it was when we passed through those gates and seen your face. That made it all special right there.”
He calls it a core memory.
“Once you pass that and you are on your property, that’s like a sanctuary, a shelter, if you will.”
And what waits inside that sanctuary?
People.
Not just artists or recognizable Hip Hop personalities, but people who genuinely enjoy being together.
“For me, I call it a family reunion that you never knew you had family with.”
It’s a description that becomes more meaningful when you consider that C-Boogs and Eclips3 have attended every edition of Beats & Bars since its beginning.
They’ve watched familiar faces return year after year, newcomers become regulars, and the gathering grow into something that reaches well beyond Augusta.
“I never seen so many smiles in one place at one time,” he says.
For C-Boogs, those smiles tell the story.
It’s an atmosphere where the stresses of everyday life seem to disappear, where people arrive ready to enjoy themselves, and where the usual boundaries between performers and audiences don’t seem to matter.
“The green room is the whole place.”
That’s how C-Boogs describes one of the biggest differences between Beats & Bars and a conventional Hip Hop show.
There isn’t a backstage world reserved for performers and a separate experience for everyone else. Artists mingle with the crowd, conversations happen naturally, and people get to know each other without the usual celebrity hierarchy.
“Egos are checked at the door,” he explains.
As an eMCee, he finds that freedom especially meaningful.
“I want to perform in front of these people because these people get what I’m spitting. This is my tribe right here.”
And then there are the cyphers.
For C-Boogs, watching eMCees gather around the microphone brings back memories of Washington Square Park and the legendary cyphers outside Fat Beats.
No elaborate production necessary. Just people who love the craft, listening, responding, and getting busy.
“We’ve been having some historic cyphers,” he says.
But the music is only part of what brings him back.
In 2026, C-Boogs traveled with a group of ten friends who shared an Airbnb during the weekend. Some already knew one another. Others were meeting for the first time.
Away from the festival grounds, friendships were forming over conversations, meals, and the simple pleasure of spending time together.
C-Boogs remembers watching people he’d brought along experience the same sense of connection he’d been describing for years.
“Now I know I’m factual, though, how I express it and what I’m telling people about it, because I have receipts.”
That may be the clearest explanation of why he keeps returning.
He’s no longer simply telling people about a great Hip Hop event. He’s watching them discover for themselves what he’s been talking about.
And that’s how the Beats & Bars family keeps growing. One person makes the trip, brings a few friends the following year, and before long, those friends are bringing people of their own.
For anyone who’s already experienced it, introducing somebody new might be the best way to experience it all over again. And for those who haven’t made the trip yet, 2027 is a good place to start. This year, Beats & Bars is introducing an Ambassador Program to help more people share that experience. Those interested in bringing new faces into the family can learn more about becoming an ambassador.
The friendships don’t end when everybody checks out of the Airbnb. The relationships continue, the stories get retold, and before long somebody’s already asking about next year.
It’s why, for C-Boogs, the road to Augusta has become more than a trip.
It’s a tradition.
And for the fifth anniversary, the journey begins again.
Beats & Bars Barbecue returns to Augusta, Georgia, April 23–25, 2027.
